Free Speech
**Free speech**, also known as freedom of speech, is the right to express opinions and ideas without fear of government censorship or legal penalty. It is a fundamental human right recognized in international law and many national constitutions. Free speech supports open discussion, democracy, and the exchange of ideas, but may be subject to limitations such as laws against hate speech, defamation, or incitement to violence. The scope and limits of free speech vary across countries and legal systems.
